The Community Council is delighted to see that our request for the Lower Green to be included in the Centenary Field project has been accepted. The project protects green spaces with links to memorials to the fallen of The Great War and the Lower Green was enthusiastically recognised by the adjudicators as a fine example.
The process has taken over 18 months to be completed but the timing of the announcement could not be more significant.
We hope the community take pride in our village memorial and green space being recognised by a national body and pleasure in knowing that the Green is protected as an open space for all time.
The dates on the plaque represent the centenary of the start and end of the Great War and of the duration of the Centenary Fields project, it is not an error of the dates of the war.
